Babies' skin is thinner, softer and more sensitive than ours. It also has a higher pH level, which makes it more sensitive to irritants and more prone to chafing. It is normal for the same reason that the diaper frequently causes chafing, but don't worry, we have a guide to prevent and treat diaper rash effectively and safely.
What are chafing?
They present as redness, lesions, swelling or spots on your baby's buttocks, thighs and genitals. The most common cause of diaper rash is a combination of dirty diapers and friction with the skin that intensifies during the first twelve months as babies have more frequent bowel movements.
STEP 1: PREVENT
The key to reducing chafing is in prevention, we share our 5 prevention tips:
a) Change diapers frequently - Remove wet or dirty diapers immediately.
b) Rinse the baby's buttocks with warm water every time you change the diaper - Use wipes that do not contain alcohol or fragrances or use a gentle soap-free cleanser like our PREBIOTIC WASH that in addition to cleaning, moisturizes the skin.
c) Pat the skin dry using a clean towel or let it air dry.
d) Apply cream - Every time you change the diaper, apply Calendula Relief , it contains zinc oxide (25%), the proven ingredient in many products for diaper rash. It also contains calendula and beeswax that soothe from the first application and ensures long-lasting skin repair.
e) Tighten the diapers - A diaper that allows a little air circulation prevents diaper rash, without tightening them too much because they can hurt the skin.
STEP 2: TREAT
If you notice a rash on your baby, don't worry, it's completely normal. We share our 4 tips to regenerate and heal the skin effectively:
a) Ventilate the wound - Remove the diaper for a while to allow it to ventilate and expose the area to the sun through a window.
b) Spread an ointment for chafing -Pumpkin Cure is our treatment for chafing. This ointment contains antiseptic ingredients effective against fungi that reduce inflammation, soothe and protect the skin, apply it and let it dry in the open air.
c) Avoid scented diapers - Fragrances are highly irritating and even toxic, always try to avoid them.
d) Keep the area dry - Make sure to dry very well after the bath and before putting the diaper on.
If the rash does not improve after 2 or 3 days, you notice that the hives extend to the legs, back or abdomen or that the skin opens, it is important that you go to the doctor.
